1) Flame pass. We're gonna try another flame pass. The first half of this video displays the five skills that breathers should practice for flame passing: Breath, sustain without torch, hit torch (with someone else waving the source torch), two torch (carry the flame from one lit torch to another soaked one about a meter away), hit-two torch (someone waves the source and you light a soaked torch)/

2) Breather's box. The second half of that video shows the skills needed for the breather's box, a scary idea I came up with that's never been successfully done.

3) Best stunt. As determined by the fire breathers entering the contest, best breathing stunt wins the coveted Brass Balls award.

We could make a media fiasco out of it and get some multinational media house (ABC sports?) to help with the coordination. They get juicy video, we get media coverage of the attempt, and help coordinating.

Since you ~hot~ people are so good at what you do, how about blowing your wad on a Mayan Pyramid on Fri 8/31 at 9pm at the Rock Opera located 1700' from The Man? Fire Breathers are our people of choice in one of the songs. Stand on the Pyramid's multi levels spewing your stuff toward the audience. Now, how fun is that? It will end in pyrotechnics and The Pyramid will ~BURN~. Starts at 9pm; burning by 9:50. Contact me for more details: Donna@GoddessDonna.com.

I've put some info up on the website, but, there's still time to learn flame passing by the Burn (for those that haven't yet)

Preparation

There are 5 distinct steps a soloist should take to learn the necessary flame pass skills:

1) Simple breath - getting a flame is the firrst step. Please do not try to learn this alone. Find a breather to teach you AT LEAST this one step. Seriously.
2) Breath without torch - Yes, you use the torch to light your breath, but as soon as you can, you remove the torch and keep breathing. Practice duration at this step. 2 full seconds is ideal.
3) Hit torch - have a friend (not your spotter) wave your torch near your ignition zone while you try hitting the flame for breathing. This will get you accustomed to breathing on someone else's schedule.
4) Two torch - This is the hardest and most important skill to master. You hold two torches about 3' apart; one lit and the other soaked in white gas. Then, using ONLY your flame and a head swivel, carry the flame from one torch to the other. Your ego will try to get this working quicker by craning your body around, or pulling the torches together, but resist it. A good, clean swivel will pay off for the record.
5) Two torch hit - have a friend wave a torch, catch it, and carry the flame to another torch about 3' away. This completes the base skills you can do without other breathers.

Claim Title:	Most fire breathers passing single ignition flame.
Country:	United States
City/Town/Village:	Black Rock City, NV
Date of attempt:	30/08/2007
Record Details:	Most fire breathers passing single ignition flame.
Flame pass - when one fire breather ignites and breathes using another fire breather's flame:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl2BAo5rM10
We wish to build the longest line of fire breathers passing a flame from a single torch. This stunt requires timing and skill on the parts of all members, but is very easy to verify. This will be attempted by the Ocean Of Fire Group immediately after attempting to re-take the 'most fire breathers in one location" record. those wishing to try this record will simply line up and kill their torches. The first one will be lit and the rest catch the original flame. We do this because simple fire breathing is a low-skill, very common talent, but we have a large group of highly skilled fire breathers who are set on advancing the art. The basic flame pass is the cornerstone of numerous new fire breathing stunts that we wish to introduce to the world.

There's no guarantee that they'll accept it, but i figure it's worth a try.

The up side is that SVP is being co-sponsored by Dave from Reno, so his truck with four more flame cannons will be around, and available for photography. SVP seems a bit more into having the ocean there, and might be more inclined to power up the sound system and fire up the cannons for glory shots.

But now, I realize how special this whole thing was. Oceans of Fire II just earned all of us a place in history. How many people do you know that fire breathe? Probably a bunch. Sure, it's cool and all. But how many people do you know that are in the guiness book of world records? Probably none. how many people do your friends know that are in? probably none. And to top it off, we're not in it for something nerdy like biggest star wars collection of longest time on a teetor-totter. We're in for breathing fire!! Pretty damn cool.
And realistically, Oceans of Fire has just become the quintesential Burningman moment for most of us. Sure, the sights sounds and friendships are great, but none of those have put you in the record books. They haven't earned you your spot in history.

So brag to your friends and family. they'll be happy for you, and they'll be stoked to say that they know someone in the Guiness book of world records. I know my parents are bragging to all their friends.

Check the photos posted in the gallery, and you'll have an idea of how hard that can be. Fortunately, all the photos you're likely to see are from the paparatzi section, on the ground, just in front of the event. So, if they're not workable for the record, then one of the 6 attempts on two different motion camera's should be.

2) While registering a couple friends of mine who don't have internet access, I noticed that if you don't put a message in with the registration, the process bombs, but does so in such a way that you might miss it. So, I've been ticking back the counter because I thought people were visiting the page but not bothering to fill out the form, when in fact, those might have been people trying to register, but not filling every field then not paying attention ot the next page. Given that, we have about 80-90 people planning on being there.
So, if you arrive, and your name's not on the list, fret not, you can still sign up manually. And please take no offence, I must have built the cgi incorrectly.

What I've learned:
- Thursday was probably the perfect day balancing between other stuff happening and number of people arrived.
- There are two, and only two, places on the playa that don't change and everyone knows: the Man and Center Camp. Next year, we meet at Center Camp, no where else.
- Even 65 people breathing at once is an amazing spectacle. This was worth it without the record.

Greetings and ignitions!

Just a note to dispel some rumor. Two weeks before leaving for the playa, I had cold/flu symptoms and thought them healed before I set out.

Then the Friday night one week before the man fell, I had another night of very high fever, high heart rate, coughing, confusion. I considered this the last dying gasp of my flu and good riddance, as in the morning, I felt ok.

The burn was uneventful health-wise until Thursday night, though I felt weak and restless. On Thursday after the Ocean of Fire record attempt (so damn close... next year!) when I went to bed, I again had very high fever and heart rate, coughing, confusion, blahblahblah. Now I am wondering what is up... I know, smart guy, huh?

I spent Friday thoroughly hydrating and just hanging out, trying to get well not doing much. Went to the re-attempt for the firebreathing record and was participating in that (excellent arrangement, Tedward, and GREAT JOB to all concerned).

I made a notable feeble attempt at a "blast", and realized my lungs werent inflating really well, so stepped back. I did not inhale/ingest any more than trace amounts of lamp oil, just like any other attempt. Did not burn my face, mouth throat... nothing.

However, due perhaps to the condition of my lungs, I began coughing so forcefully I could not stand and had to be taken to the Med tent. Sucky part is, that i can not tell them what REALLY happened, due to laryngitis and coughing (I was a throat cancer patient) so they went with assumptions and I had to give the best answer to either/or questions, not actually explain.

Thankfully they sent me to Northern Nevada Med Ctr. (great people) where they diagnosed me with bacterial double pneumonia which had been oncoming for 2 or more weeks.

The rumors at the hospital are really impressive. I was hearing about a guy (me) who melted his face, drank gasoline and exploded, inhaled white gas, etc....
to quote Mark Twain, "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

I am at home trying to get better and missing you fire freaks. See you soon, and please pass this on to anyone you hear who may have the facts incorrect...

Peace
