I've put some info up on the website, but, there's still time to learn flame passing by the Burn (for those that haven't yet)
Preparation
There are 5 distinct steps a soloist should take to learn the necessary flame pass skills:
1) Simple breath - getting a flame is the firrst step. Please do not try to learn this alone. Find a breather to teach you AT LEAST this one step. Seriously.
2) Breath without torch - Yes, you use the torch to light your breath, but as soon as you can, you remove the torch and keep breathing. Practice duration at this step. 2 full seconds is ideal.
3) Hit torch - have a friend (not your spotter) wave your torch near your ignition zone while you try hitting the flame for breathing. This will get you accustomed to breathing on someone else's schedule.
4) Two torch - This is the hardest and most important skill to master. You hold two torches about 3' apart; one lit and the other soaked in white gas. Then, using ONLY your flame and a head swivel, carry the flame from one torch to the other. Your ego will try to get this working quicker by craning your body around, or pulling the torches together, but resist it. A good, clean swivel will pay off for the record.
5) Two torch hit - have a friend wave a torch, catch it, and carry the flame to another torch about 3' away. This completes the base skills you can do without other breathers.
